With fantastic running times the 35th Berlin Marathon has confirmed again the reputation of the German capital as “fastest paving of the world”:
As first runner Haile Gebrselassie has beaten in 2:03:59 the mark of 2:04 and was even 27 second faster than in 2007.
Irina Mikitenko did score the first German victory since 13 years with a time of 2:19:18 and succeed in running the Marathon under 2:20 as first German runner.
The Berlin Marathon 2009 is already casting its shadow and will take place presumably on September 20th, 2009. Due to the parliamentary elections for the Bundestag the marathon will be starting already a week earlier.
